May I ask "sponsor or joint sponsor that qualifies."?

What is the definition of qualified?

Read and review the I-864p document.   Consider amounts a minimum.  At the end of the day the "Totality of the Circumstances" will rule.

Is it too late to respond to the RFE and get a joint sponsor like they asked?  Perhaps the deadline has not passed. Any thoughts?

I don't think it is possible since they already received response to RFE over two weeks ago

A sponsor to qualify needs to have a current annual income of 125% the poverty line (100% for military). Is self sponsored, an expected income based on the latest return.

They need to provide a tax return or transcript for the latest year. If they didn't need to file one, they need to letter stating why they were not required to file a return.

These are only some of the requirements. Everything a sponsor needs to provide is listed on the instructions for the form.

If I may add, I was in a similar (yet different) position. My husband made well above the poverty line. However, when we sent our initial package, we sent the tax ACCOUNT transcript instead of the tax RETURN transcript. Even though the tax account transcript shows more detailed info than the return one, they sent us a generic RFE that prompted us to get a joint sponsor. We knew we didn't need it, so what we did with that RFE was to send the tax return transcript, an employment letter, and six months of pay statements. And that made it.

What I am saying is just because they ask you for a joint sponsor and you didn't get one because your sponsor qualifies, that doesn't mean denial. But again, the burden of the evidence is on you.
