REAL ID Illinois

Hi everyone, tried looking for an answer but couldn't find one, I am looking to apply for my REAL id/ drivers license in Illinois but due to COVID19 have had to wait.

I am currently applying for AOS and my i-94 has expired yesterday. It is one of the documents I will need here in Illinois and I want to know if anyone has applied for REAL ID/drivers license with an expired i-94 or did you wait for your EAD to come?

I just moved here and we will need to apply for that as well.

i've been on the website numerous times as well as www.cyberdriveillinois.com thr DMV website, it does show passport with i-94 but it doesnt state if the i-94 needs to be valid or not..am going to try next week anyway as the DMV should be quiter due to only being open for new drivers only. Will report my findings then,.

I'm guessing the I-94 would need to be valid. They probably wouldn't accept any other expired/invalid docs, so seems like it would be the same with the I-94. 

 

Please do report! I think it's worth trying just to see what happens. Hopefully the DMV won't be too crowded.

Passport & valid I-94. 

If I-94 has expired, then I-485 notice that was filed ( which allows you to legally stay in the US pending adjudication)

If one BMV refuses, try another one.

Just wanted to post a quick update, so i went to the DMV for the second time, the first time was a farce with the queue going round the block so i just gave up without even waiting. Just went today and the queue was much much shorter, the DMV person outside who was helping people was very knowledgable and knew what to ask for and had all the information. He explained to me that you need the letter  approval for the i485 or i765 as Illinois is a state that needs the confirmation to show when those expire as thats when the drivers license will expire too..I did give him my i797C and he said they arent good enough as they are not confirmations of approval. This was at the Des Plaines location. If someone in Chicago area has had a different experience please let me know.

I tried in waukegan when mine was expired they refused until i got my extension.

 

you will not get a new licence without a valid status in illinois period. sorry!

Yep, thats fine, hopefully it wont be too long before the EAD/AP comes.
