that is what i guessed from the beginnig. But it seems it might mean other things as per advice from other experience people here.

It can. But playing the security check card stops all discussion. From you or a Congressperson if they get involved. Just know that eventually you will get through)  Good luck....

Not a newbie but lost my old info years ago) I have been through this process before --all the way through naturalization-- This site has always been a great help to me.

I'm not clear about what you said. can you explain?

That is the response you normally get so you stop asking questions.

That doesn't mean it's not accurate, though. Most often when a case is taking longer than normal, especially post-RFE, security checks would be the only item to hold it up. The next closest would be verification of documents (i.e. if the RFE was for a divorce certificate or criminal records or something).

I have no evidence to suggest that they are saying it's stuck on security checks when it is actually something else.

Since there is nothing either you or they can do to make security checks go faster, it has the impact of getting people to stop asking questions.

yes, you are right. divorce certificate from china is one of documents required in RFE. We sent the single declaration notarized document when we filed application and forgot to send divorce certificate notarization. USCIS needs to verify with china notarization place? It might take little bit of longer time if they need to. But i doubt USCIS will do it though.

I'm not privvy to exactly what or how they check the documents, sorry. I do know it can take longer if certain criteria are met. For instance, depending on who or where it was issued within the country, when it was issued, etc. For example, I know some US birth certificates issued during certain dates by some midwives are scrutinized due to previous fraud that occurred.

I would expect that most are able to be verified on the spot, but there are cases where a document has to go through additional verification too.

understand. we never had fraud before. But nobody knows what the USCIS officer thinks about. Seems like the only thing we can do is to wait. But it really a torture as it takes 8 months already

Another month passed by and i still didn't get updates from USCIS. I sent inquiry to USCIS for updates and was told the same reason as last month. it says the security check result still didn't come back because of the virus. I am wondering if USCIS stops working on K1 case already. Anybody has experience on it?
