I-134 Help Please

Hello....so I am looking over the I-134 affidavit form that I will complete for my fiance's K1 visa process....she lives outside the US.  I don't see any information on where/how to file the form.  The instructions direct me to the I-134 page at USCIS and that web page directs me to the I-134 instructions  🤣  ..... any help appreciated

It is not filed. It is brought to the interview. Instructions will be provided by the consulate when you get to that stage.

Ok, thank you....it seems I read that on another non-US gov site but I wanted to check the official info to be sure....but clearly the official instructions is far from helpful 😕

Did you read this official explanation of the K1 visa process? Clearly says that the I-134 is to be brought to the interview https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/nonimmigrant-visa-for-a-fiance-k-1.html

Ahh yes...I read that earlier E&W, I just wanted to be sure and I figured my answer would come directly from reading the I-134 instructions but I couldn't find it there....I'm happy to give the paperwork to my fiance instead of depending on the mail

Because the form is not filed, the instructions won't be able to tell you where or how to do so. It would be dependent upon whatever activity that needs the I-134 to determine how to submit it.

The form is not widely used anymore (it used to be used for many more types of cases before the I-864 was developed), but it's essentially designed so that other processes can incorporate its use without making changes to the form or its instructions. It's not strictly for K-1.

The K-1 visa uses the I-134.

 

There are a couple consulates that I have heard ask for the I-864. I have not verified that. The Foreign Affair Manual (FAM) is the policy guide that COs use. The FAM explicitly says it should not be used for K-1 cases.

If the instructions from the consulate say to use the I-134, then definitely.

If they say to use the I-864, then I suggest confirming with others from the same consulate to make sure it's not a generic letter (K-1s are non-immigrant but handled by the IV unit at the consulate). If they also say they needed to use an I-864, then it would probably be best to go with that.

 

Your timeline indicates Bolivia. AFAIK, the I-134 is used there for a K-1...I have not personally seen reports to the contrary.
