Hi all!

My husband is petitioning for me, IR-1.

What is the best and most organized way to mail everything (from canada).

Is a binder with page protectors organizing items in each one acceptable?

NOOOOOOOO!     you can use binder clips if needed.  USCIS (contractor) does not want anything stapled or in a binder or envelope within a packet.  It can cause you petition to be delayed or returned.    You could two hole punch the tops and place tabs on the bottom but even that is not preferred as EVERYTHING gets scanned in.   The only thing other than 8.5x11 paper you should have is a check.

This in the form instructions!

Best to follow their own advice on their website:

In preparing your packet, remember:

  • Do not use binders or folders that we cannot easily disassemble.
  • Use fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated.
  • Sticky tabs assist in locating items listed as attachments. For easy filing, place the tabs on the bottom of the page, not the side.
  • Do not use heavy-duty staples; instead use fasteners or heavy clips.
  • Do not submit originals unless specifically required.
  • Do not submit oversized documentation unless it is necessary.
  • Send single-sided copies of your supporting documentation.
