Is Medicaid a Public Charge after an AOS is approved

So my wife is in the United States and her AOS was approved she received her green card last month.  Myself and our 2 kids are American citizens and have been using Medicaid for about the last year since we moved back to the US.  My question is now she may qualify for Medicaid but will myself being her sponsor be at risk of paying any medical costs related to her use of Medicaid?  We don't want to sign her up if the government will end up sending us the bill for the medical expenses.  From what I have seen it may depend on the State we live in if it is a public charge.  We are in Maine.  If anyone knows where to look up this information that would be helpful as well.  Thank you.

Maine does not come to mind as a state where you would qualify for Medicaid within the first 5 years. IIRC, only NY and CA allow it prior (and a couple other states with restrictions, such as pregnancy related care).

Oh OK so I will try to verify that with Medicaid.  I had called them earlier today and after over 2 hours on hold they were more confused than i was abou tmy question lol.  I will go to the office and trying talking to them in person tomorrow.
