Travelling while AOS pending status

Hi,

 

While AOS is pending with the beneficiary in the US, is it fine to travel to places like Hawaii and Alaska? I know leaving the country means USCIS treats the application as abandoned without a travel permit, but I was wondering if travel to these US states is prohibited too?

Traveling to Alaska or Hawaii is not considered leaving the US so not a problem. Flying from New york to texas is same as flying from New york to alaska or hawaii in terms of immigration.

I thought so but figured it was worth checking anyway - throwing away the AOS application over a trip would be a drag.

In the cases of direct flights from the 48 states, you're fine to travel on a regular state ID or drivers license (until RealID requirements start kicking in). However, if you're thinking about cruises from the mainland (i.e. Seattle to Alaska), you should note that most cruises will stop in Canada on the way.

 

If you're flying to Hawaii, there is one aspect that is kind of like visiting a foreign country: no fresh fruits/veggies allowed in or out.

Ah, yes, that is something to think about. Thanks for mentioning that.

just make sure you dont have any layovers or stops on foreign soil (ie canada in the case of alaska)
