We've been trying to acquire a police certificate for my spouse for the last month - she lives in Russia and went to school in Spain for a couple of years. The police certificate from her hometown was relatively easy to acquire and we'll be uploading that to the NVC, but the Police Certificate from Spain has become a hassle to acquire. Since we have all the civil and support documents ready to be filed, we're thinking of submitting the package to the NVC to get it into the review process less the Spain Police Certificate. If the NVC issues a RFE, we hope to have it ready and translated by then. Is this a good idea? Or should i wait another month or so to get through this lofty bureaucratic process in Spain to obtain the annoying police certificate? Just trying to figure out ways to expedite through this little hassle. Any feedback helps!

That's up to you, it doesn't matter. Just be aware that if the NVC is saying it takes 6-8 weeks for them to review the documents and if anything is missing and they ask you to resubmit, it'll be another 6-8 weeks before they'll review that.

So every time they request for additional information (let's say you missed a police report from a another country), the clock restarts? I was thinking that they would take less time responding to an RFE.

In our case, it took two weeks to review the first submission and another two weeks for the second.

So it just depends.

They say it could be up to 6-8 weeks. That is correct, sometimes it's 2 weeks. For some other people, it takes 6 weeks, for something simple like rescanning an illegible birth certificate. There is no logic. Just want you to be aware.

They reviewed our first submission in five days. The second submission we have now been waiting three weeks... it’s so random.
