    Apprently as of 2022 you don’t need the eTA to transit Canada by air as a green card holder anymore. Useful information I just learned (we had applied for my husband back in the era of Covid).

    Yes, you always need to be mindful of the visas required for your passport at any country you will be traveling to or transiting though. The extension letter grants you the right to come home to the U.S., but not entry into any other country (or their airports).

    Usually you can’t do online check in for international flights, but there is some sort of thing in the online portals for the airlines where you have to provide your identity information at least 48 hours before any flights to the U.S.? That’s when we used the extended green card date. I think I learned to do it that way because his green card was already expired, and they wouldn’t allow me to put and expired date. I was forced to use the “new” expiration date. I wouldn’t hesitate to put it in the online check in either, personally. But to each their own of course Hubby doesn’t remember them ever asking to see the letter, but they may have at the check in desk. Those travel days are always a blur!

    My husband has traveled on it and will again this Christmas. It’s no big deal, other than the hassle of carrying the extra document. When you put your green card expiration date into any online flight stuff, just use your green card expiration date +4 years (assuming you have the 48 month extension letter). There are no airlines that don’t accept it. You’re still a LPR!

    Finally got a biometrics appointment letter! No update in the online portal, but we received an appointment letter in the mail today for early December… just about 2 years from the day of filing. LIN (Nebraska Service Center) filer. No N400. One step closer…

    For me personally I put the notice date of when we got the text message update that it was received, although our actual notice date on the form is one day earlier. Nothing too scientific here! 😛

    Same here, our case was received 12/8/21 and that’s where it has sat ever since. We are at LIN (Nebraska SC). No n400. Guess it’s not just us!

    December 2021 LIN filer here, we got our 48 month extension letter last month. Don’t worry, they’re coming!

    Same here; my husband said he may consider citizenship in the next few years, but for now we're super stoked to have the longer extension letter and stop worrying about the impending expiration of the previous one!

    Yep, we did. Grateful that even if we have to wait, at least we won't be scrambling for an infopass appointment next year!

    As stated by another commenter, no worries, just take that extension letter and your green card with you whenever you travel overseas. When airlines ask for your green card expiration date, it’s simply your previous expiration date +2 years. I made my husband keep his extension letter in a plastic baggy to protect it while we were traveling in Europe this summer 🤣 And yeah citizenship is a personal thing, of course if your home country allows dual citizenships or you simply don’t care too much about your passport of birth, you should certainly go for it! My husband’s country is still trying to add dual citizenship to the constitution, but I’m hopeful they’ll allow it before the next green card renewal comes around 😅 Cheers, safe travels!

    Same for my husband, so I assume this is normal for CR-1 visa types. It’s been 10 months and we’ve gotten nothing but the receipt. We even filed an inquiry back in July; they just ignored it. 🤷🏼‍♀️
