so DMV stAtus needs to be updated too?

Haven't updated at DMV since I had my oath last March  because I didn't have any name, status (marital) or address changes. I'm just going to renew my DL before it expires this year. No need to add more expense if it's not necessary yet.

Why do you need a new card? I don’t have any restrictions listed on mine. Or did you change your name?

i presume passports will do as proof of usc, that’s all I have for my kid. her passport is finally arriving today so I can update her ss too.

Is a visit to SSA office after citizenship still necessary if the ss card was updated once already after removal of conditions?

A new social security card was sent after the ROC, same number but the new ss card had no mention of conditions listed like the old one did.

Yes. If you already have a card without the legend "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" - they will NOT issue a new one. But you need to update your record to reflect the fact you're now a citizen. It is even listed @ USCIS as one of the things to do after naturalization - here. Scroll all the way down.

Also - not such a big deal. I guess it depends on each office, but in my case, I was in and out in about 35 minutes. Out of which I spent 33 sitting down reading a book while waiting for my number to be called, and two minutes actually talking to a SS employee.

I just gave him my completed SS-5 form (completed it at home before even going to the SS office), my passport - guy typed on his computer for maybe 10 seconds, we were done. He even congratulated me on becoming a citizen !

And the same day I also went to the DMV to get my Real ID - I regularly travel for work, and prefer to use my driver license instead of carrying my passport each time I travel domestically.

I forgo to say - when I went to the DMV for my Real ID application, they also asked me if I wanted to register to vote, and I said yes - so, double whammy. And about a week later I got my Real ID, and about 10 days later my voter registration card in the mail.

You can do walk in with no appointment to your local SSA office, you will need the original naturalization certificate, the new card will be about 7-10 days in the mail, You can visit the DMV with your passport to do the name change on your driver license.

do we have to go to the DMV too?
