  1. So for Cubans at least, apparently it doesn't matter how you entered the country.
  2. Apparently there are tons of loopholes that allow a green card, One is the Cuban Adjustment Act which allows a Cuban national with US relatives to apply for a green card after one year of being allowed into the US
  3. Is there any way to adjust status later on after being granted humanitarian parole? Or do people on humanitarian parole have to return after 2 years?
  4. At the moment she only has the temporary I-551 visa which is placed in the passport at the embassy interview. She recently received an appointment for biometrics which they need to issue the conditional 2 year plastic green card, which is mailed after the biometric appointment is completed. Just curious as to how long it takes to receive the new green card in the mail after the biometrics appointment.
  5. My friend who entered US after receiving her F2A visa at the embassy recently went to her biometrics appointment for the 'permanent' conditional green card. How long does it usually take to receive the card in the mail after biometrics? It seems they are processing it still with her old address, Is there any way to update it to the new address before the green card arrives?
  6. Its been over 3 weeks, no ss card in mail yet. Social security card had been requested on application
  7. Does not paying the immigrant fee right away affect the time it takes to issue a social security number? Will the SSN still be sent in mail following arrival in US?
  8. OK I found in their records, it says the AOS fee and immigrant visa fee ($325) have been paid. Is this the immigrant fee?
  9. If the immigrant fee was paid right away at time of application, than it has been a while since it was paid and it may be difficult to track down on a credit card statement. Is there another way to check to see if it has been paid or not? Not sure if application is still at CEAC.
  10. Is an F2A family entry visa issued to a spouse at the embassy interview the same as a temporary green card? Is she authorized to work upon arrival in US? There seems to be some confusion as to whether the $220 immigrant fee was paid or not.
  11. Would that be the $280 fee? After receiving the i-551 passport stamp, do you have a full year to apply for the conditional green card?
  12. What is the process for receiving a 'conditional' green card after the immigrating spouse is issued an I-551 passport stamp?
  13. If someone goes to the SSA office and requests a SSN, it is always mailed out and takes about 2 weeks. They don't give you a physical card right then and there at the appointment, but are they able to tell you what your new SSN is at the office? There doesn't seem to be a consistent timeline for when a social security card arrives in the mail after entering US with a DS-260 checked for a SSN, Wouldn't it be worth it to just go to the SSA immediately after arriving and apply for a SSN even if the box on DS-260 was checked? At least you would know for sure that you will be able to work in 2 weeks.
  14. Despite all the dire warnings received, the visa interview was smooth, and F2 visa was issued without any problem. No extra affidavits were needed, no new I-130, only updated sponsor income information was requested. The embassy seemed to not care in the slightest that petitioner had recently naturalized.
  15. Thank you, I guess I was hoping an embassy might have some discretion to waive or reduce the I-130 fee when it involves an upgrade, some exceptional circumstances, or the location. Do you know if they will accept a US credit or debit card at the embassy? (Cuba)
  16. Does anyone know if a consular processed I-130 has the same fees as a normal 130? Will they want payment for a new I-130 up front at the consulate? Petitioner has become a citizen before embassy interview for spouse and child under 21, so petitioner will probably need to submit a new I-130 for child. Just wrote for information but haven't heard back from embassy yet.
  17. So the original family I-130 for the spouse and daughter will still be sufficient for the spouse, or does petitioner need to file a new I-130 for the spouse as well as the daughter? I think I misspoke, the spouse isn't the one who files the 130, petitioner does.
  18. Does anyone know if the beneficiary spouse will also have to file another I-130 like the daughter?
  19. Because of the circumstances a consulate may accept a scanned original emailed or uploaded signature. Usually no problem if there is an obvious reason.
  20. Is a 'wet' signature required for the I-130? What would be the best way for the petitioner to get a signed I-130 to the consulate? (sorry I may asked the same question in wrong forum)
  21. Is a 'wet' signature required for the I-130? What would be the best way for the petitioner to get a signed I-130 to the consulate?
  22. Thanks for the reply. Do you know if the conditional 2 year green card is still being issued? I think I read some where that the conditional type green card was being phased out.
  23. Is there a difference between the type of green cards issued to immediate relatives of US citizens as opposed to immediate family of permanent residents?
  24. Citing several several possible exceptions listed, I drafted a letter requesting expedited consular processing for child under 21 of a US citizen, to still allow her to accompany her mother to US. If approved, would the embassy require the petitioner himself to sign and submit a new I-130 electronically? Or, can the consulate start and process the new I-130 without additional actions from the petitioner, something like a self-petition?
