The requirement cannot be waived.  You will need to find a joint sponsor.

One easy thing that newbies can do to get a better feel for what is going on, and likely answers to similar questions as their own, is the read through several pages of the recent pertinent forums. For example, there are likely at least 5-6 postings about Affidavit of Support, Form I-134, and co-sponsors, in the initial K1 visa phase of the process.
