Hi everyone,

Our visa was approved last week and now we're waiting for receiving our passport.

I wonder if i need to book a roundtrip flying ticket or just a one-way...? On one hand we're not allowed to leave the US soil before getting our travel permit, but on the other hand with one visa usually we have to get a roundtrip ticket?... I'm confused...

Either is fine. It just depends on your preference.

For example, roundtrip tickets are sometimes cheaper than one-way tickets. However, they may not be the most cost-effective choice as there may be other costs associated with roundtrip tickets such as rebooking, re-routing, cancellation, no-show fees, etc.

There's no requirement for one or the other. The only things to remember are

  • Do not book non-refundable tickets before you have your visa in hand (it could take unusually long for your passport to get to you for one reason or another, there could be errors on your visa, the sealed envelope could be damaged in transit, etc.)
  • If you book a round-trip (return) ticket, remember to cancel the return leg after you arrive in the US
