Interviewed last week but decision can't be made. My files was not there

Hello everyone. I had my interview last week but a decision couldn't be made because the IO did not have my files. Does anyone know why is that? has anyone experienced the same thing? if yes what was the outcome?

Interview for what?

If AOS I had missing documents and the IO needed to request it. If everything is fine then probably you will get approved, otherwise RFE. It took 3 weeks take or give after the interview to get the approval.

thank you for you response. it was interview for naturalization. My entire file was not there.

That is normal. It will took around 2-3 weeks. Mine was not approved on the spot since the guy interview me is a new guy. After a week the oath letter arrived in mailbox.

No. I applied for naturalization 5 years minus 3 months after my longest trip that lasted about 9 months. The IO told me even before we begin that he won't be able to make a decision, because my files are not there. Later that evening I was sent an RFE related to that trip ( which i do not understand since ones is allowed to apply 4 years and 9 months after breaking the continuous residency).
