Hi, the tracker says Ready now. One of the requirements for the interview is to bring police clearances. I was told in the general K1 Visa forum that it's not police clearance, it's nbi clearance. What's the difference? Why do requirements on the government sites specifically say police clearances?

I know the difference now between police clearance and nbi clearance. Next question is my fiance needs a police clearance from Dubai. She was in Dubai earlier this year for over a month. We read that she needs to be physically in Dubai to get the police clearance. So she has to fly to Dubai just for the police clearance and come back to PH? Had we known, she would have gotten it there when she was there.

You shouldn't be in the dark about any step of the process. Read and read and if you think you got it all continue reading.

Under step 5 in the police certificate it shows the requirements needed.

NBI would be the "police certificate" for the Philippines. Each country has their own and as with each country most have their own rules in how to obtain it.

Their certificates are only good for 3 months

The requirements header is Police Report, then continues on to say NBI  and /or police clearance from other countries .. IF ... you resided in a foreign country for 6 MONTHS or more.    IF ..... your fiancee was only in Dubai for 1 month a police clearance isn't required.

Lastly you can only acquire a police clearance from Dubai in person .. and NO that does not mean you fly there to get one.    Dubai police clearance is waived because of the "in person"  requirement.   The guide has links to Reciprocity

POLICE REPORT. Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Philippine police (NBI) clearance from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). For immigration purposes, an NBI clearance is valid for one year from the date of issuance.

  • Please note that an NBI Clearance with an AKA is also required. Police clearances should be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name, married name, and any aliases or nicknames ever used, including different spellings of all names that may have appeared on other civil documents (e.g., birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.), even if these names or spellings have never been routinely used. Please refer to the NBI website http://www.nbi.gov.ph for additional information. You may request NBI to directly submit your NBI clearance to the US Embassy (recommended) here: https://clearance.nbi.gov.ph/
  • Police Clearance from other countries: Applicants who have stayed for six (6) months or more upon reaching the age of 16 years are required to obtain a police certificate. Country-specific information on how to secure foreign police certificates is available at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country.html.

I am just getting ready to have my wife get her NBI Clearance for I-130. Do I need to get 1 in her maiden name and one in her married name?
