My wife is an LPR who received a green card after overstaying a tourist visa by 2 years - conditional GC came earlier this year. I am between jobs and have no insurance, and she is about two months away from receiving health insurance from her current job (she's a contractor and isn't offered insurance until the 6 month mark). She is having an issue with her birth control and has booked an appointment with Planned Parenthood - she can't (and shouldn't) wait until her insurance kicks in.

 

I know there was talk last year about GC applicants and public charge for government related policies (not sure if it ever became a policy/law). I think she'll be ok since she already has the green card and will be eligible for ROC in early 2021, but I want to make sure it's ok if she goes to PP and applies for payment assistance. Does anyone see this being an issue?

PP is not a public charge concern in any way. It's a private institution. So long as the assistance is not a public (government) means-tested aid for which she doesn't qualify (i.e. Medicaid in most states within the first 5 years of becoming an LPR), it's not an issue.

 

Also, ROC does not address public charge issues.
