So I am getting close to the NOA2 being completed, at least I hope. So looking ahead at what my fiance' needs to do for the physical and interview part. I saw information on The USCIS site that the form I-693 needs filled out and that she needs to have a copy of her Vaccinations. Well talking to her about this she does not have these records. In Viet Nam they rarely keep such things. Her mom apparently got rid of them long time ago. Also family doctors like here are not so common. Question is this really necessary to have these documents? She currently lives in Poland and has a residency card to live there so she is not in Viet Nam. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Doug

They need some sort of documents.  Probably the lowest cost thing to do is get them at a clinic and bring in the documents.  They can do lab tests for antibodies but it isn’t any more convenient or cheaper.  Possibly a public health office has a copy.  In our case we just got them at the medical exam and paid more for them.

Technically, you do not need vaccinations prior to the K1, but the doctor at the medical exam may require some of them and refer your fiance to a clinic following the exam.  The vaccination records will be included in the medical paperwork that goes to the consulate.  If your fiance is going to interview and have her medical exam in Vietnam and go to Cho Ray, she must go to Quarantine Services if the doctor requires vaccinations .  They are much more expensive than the local clinics.  My wife and her two children were required to get 3, but one was not available, so the requirement was waived.  In Vietnam, expect to pay at lease 1-2 million vnd for each vaccination.  If I remember correctly, the Hep A/B combined vaccination cost 4 million vnd at Quarantine Services in Ho Chi Minh City.  I don't know anything about Polish health services, but if your fiance can get vaccinations for free in Poland, she can start now and bring the records with her to the K1 medical exam.

All the vaccinations will be required by AOS, though my wife and daughter were not asked for updated records.  Information on vaccination requirements can be found at  the USCIS website -

https://www.uscis.gov/news/questions-and-answers/vaccination-requirements

"Under the immigration laws of the United States, a foreign national who applies for an immigrant visa abroad, or who seeks to adjust status to a permanent resident while in the United States, is required to receive vaccinations to prevent the following diseases:

  • Mumps
  • Measles
  • Rubella
  • Polio
  • Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids
  • Pertussis
  • Haemophilus influenzae type B
  • Hepatitis B
  • Any other vaccine-preventable diseases recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices"

As you can see, there are a lot of vaccinations and several require 2 or 3 separate shots over 1, 3, 6, or more months.  Because he missed his follow-up dates for his second vaccinations, my stepson's U.S. doctor required him to receive all his vaccinations from the beginning.  We call him the "human pin cushion" because he has received 20 vaccinations since December and will need 3 more before the start of the school year to get him up to date.  Luckily, vaccinations are covered 100% by health insurance in the U.S. if you add your fiance/wife to your insurance after you are married.

Good Luck - Jason

Thank you for info)) She will most likely do everything in Poland since she is a resident there. I guess when she goes to get her physical then we will see what she needs to get. I just didn't want it to be a big hold up and have to be turned away because she didn't have the records. But it sounds like they just will give her what she needs when she requires .

Thanks!!

In Taiwan we keep that record. But my friend ( student visa not k1) still was required to get some shots again b4 completed registration to school, cuz some vaccine has an expiring date.

my point is, the piece of paper is for reference only apparently. up to doc to decide if you would need to receive the shot again
