Stay away from dual flushes, not good in general. The more water the better for flushing

Do you know how the septics in the Phils work?  More water means little.

(think RV black water tank)

This whole thread reminds me of seeing my first "non-western" bathroom in Taiwan.  I thought someone had mistakenly installed a men's urinal in the floor.....

It was similar to this (but not as nice).

These are luxurious compared to the banyos in my wife's village.  A hole in the ground surrounded by cinder blocks that go up about 5 feet is what I get when we visit.  After a few days you adjust/adapt and it's no big deal.

I know pretty well how they work.

I have not actually installed them but they drain the water into the sand which seems to be common in Philippines.  Last house I messed with a septic was added onto in 2005 and now has 2.5 bathrooms and still using the old septic system.  We went to have it pumped a few years ago and it wasn't even half full.

Another house I am familiar with they added a room over the septic tank so I going to assume in general they never need to be pumped.

I suspect most discharge goes into the sandy ground either by a leach field drain or more than likely they put holes in the bottom of the septic tank.

With old houses many times the septic tank is under the CR with the commode set on top; it has a concrete floor, hollow block walls .. no piping to a drain field.   New builds the septic is outside of the foundation (as it should be), but still no drainfield.    With the old houses to pump the tank out, they remove the toilet.

For older houses the dual flush is a non-issue.  For newer construction where the septic is out in the yard, I agree with you.       And yes the house we own in the Phils is old .. and dual flush toilets are a non-issue.
