Question re DOS case ID number

I don’t suppose ( because that would be way too easy) that it’s anywhere on my green card? There’s a receipt ID on there but that’s not the same thing. Do I absolutely have to have it if I’m filing online?

I will have to do a deep dive into filing if I really need it. I was hoping it might be on the paper that came with my last renewed green card, but no luck.

Thanks

Look on the visa in the passport. Pretty certain my DOS number was on that

Yes I read that elsewhere on the forum. The thing is I entered on a visitor visa and adjusted my status so I don’t think I was assigned one at that point. It was almost 36 years ago. Would I have been assigned one subsequently?

The primary downside about waiting this long to do it is that over the years, paperwork has accumulated. Eek. So finding everything let alone remembering everything is a touch dodgy. Oh well after 35 years and  2 children I at least won’t be asked all those questions to justify the marriage, my favorite one being “what type of underpants does your husband wear?”.

Ok is there is glossary somewhere = NVC number? Ah national visa center - no I don’t think I had any contact with them.

You are correct. The DOS number is issued for the  visa application .. you did not apply for a visa to immigrate..  leave that section blank or write in N/A
