K-1 Petition Extension

I have read a couple of different things on this thread and my fiancé has gotten sick so I’m trying to plan ahead just in case I need an extension. Do I need to send the US embassy in Santo Domingo requesting an extension of my approved petition? My case is on its way to NVC I have not been able to get a case number yet. Should I schedule an interview and continue the process and hope he’s able to fly? What happens if he’s not able to attend the interview for when I schedule am I able to reschedule? Please advise.

Normally, it is automatically extended as long as there is some interaction. You can wait until you get the case/invoice #, then delay the interview schedule if need.  It may be several months until you will be able to secure an interview slot.

Agreed. Once you can schedule an interview, just schedule it for month or two out, they should auto-extend the expiration. You can then always change the interview date as needed again whenever you are sure of things.

The I-129F petition is valid for four months from the date of approval by USCIS. A consular officer can extend the validity of the petition if it expires before visa processing is completed.
