So, my wife's card expires in August 2019, so we sent out the renewal today and while I was looking around for things on the web, I found this link about renewals.  If you file properly for your renewal in time, you will get an automatic 180 day extension on the expiration date, since things do move at a snails pace and they don't want to create gaps in someone's employment (and a lack thereof of payroll deductions for taxes.  Since this is a 2017 procedure, I am sure many may already be aware, but passing it along for the new ones.

Yes, you will automatically get an extension when you file for the ROC. The NOA1 is the extension.
