Good morning/afternoon everyone,

A member sent me this article on the DS form and I felt it would be helpful for those whom received this form, it explains the two reasons why the form is given. Reason #1 is if the consular officer feels that the person would be a "threat to the USA" be it because of travel or whatever reason or #2 if the beneficiary's name triggers some sort of flag within the process. Hope it helps , best of luck to everyone.

Typical Trump hit piece from a biased source (Guardian), imo.

I had found this other article by an immigration firm with the following section:

Applicants required to complete the DS-5535 must also provide their 15-year travel, employment, and address history; and their social media platforms and identifiers; and all phone numbers and email addresses used over the last five years. The volume and level of detail requested increases the likelihood of inadvertent omission or factual error in the completion of the Form DS-5535, as applicant recollections fail over time and many applicants simply may not maintain records for 15 years. Applicants should ensure that all information provided is accurate – not merely a casual “best guess” – in order to avoid a potential finding of misrepresentation during the visa application process. A finding of fraud or misrepresentation could result in a lengthy or even permanent bar to future admission to the United States.

With new social media details now under the microscope, it seems possible, even likely, that an applicant’s social media “friends” could become a reason for visa denial, even if there is no real friendship involved.

and with the new upheaval in Department of State of the top executive(s) we all know that effects by a trickle down to each and every branch of the system

then how do estimated 65,000 going thru the ds5535  (according to the Guardian (OP article) get done in any timely order?

As far as my research takes me I can not find any new officers hired and assigned to do the additional security checks leaving so many in limbo

Sincerely I thought my case was hard and long and hearbreaking but to all of you going thru this ,  you have my sincere hopes for a brighter future

That's exactly the issue, so many cases are being assigned the form and there has been no news of new officers hired for the processing of these additional checks making the DS an endless hole with regard to waiting.

So are you saying this is inaccurate?

One thing i've noticed on VJ- some people just don't like to read anything that shows Trump in a bad light- even if it's full of facts.

You also forgot to mention this from the article as well :

During the first nine months of fiscal year 2018, immigration application denials increased by 37% since fiscal year 2016, according to the Cato Institute’s immigration policy analyst David Bier. Reuters reported that more than 37,000 visa applications were refused in 2018 as a direct result of the administration’s travel ban on primarily Muslim-majority countries.
