Not a newbie but lost my old info years ago) I have been through this process before --all the way through naturalization-- This site has always been a great help to me.

I know I'm going to get beat up for this question.  Has anyone heard of anyone scheduling their interview while the packet is still "in transit"?  I know I've read that you "should" wait until the CEAC status says ready.

AOS Timeline (I-485, I-765, I-131)

12/28/2019:  Packages sent to USCIS via Fedex

12/30/2019:  USCIS received packages

1/08/2020:  NOA for all 3 applications

1/17/2020:  Received biometrics appt letter for the I-485 and I-765 (Code 3).

1/31/2020:  Biometrics completed

2/20/2020:  RFE

6/15/2020:  Case is Ready to be Scheduled for an Interview

6/15/2020:  I-765 (New Card is Being Produced)

6/30/2020:  Received Combo Card in the Mail

4/22/2021:  AOS Interview

4/26/2021:  AOS Approval

4/29/2021:  Permanent Resident Card received in the mail

I'm pretty sure people have done it. In fact i know they have. Just make sure you give yourself enough lead time for it to change to ready before the actual interview. The person I know that is doing it is cutting it very close....I'm watching them to see how it turns out...

People were doing it very regularly .. until lately when a couple people "got burned" on that by the embassy, they had to reschedule.

The word about is there is a new shirt & tie running the IVU, we have seen a variety of changes in the last month or two.

If your case file status in IN TRANSIT I would think you would be fairly safe.

Our interview is scheduled for 3/28. Maybe they're all taken?

They cancelled 3/7 and opened up 3/28...My case went through so fast from arriving at NVC I was able to schedule for 2-21.

Mine was in and out of the NVC in less than 2 weeks.

My situation was strange.  My NOA2 is 9 January.  I started calling NVC on 23 January and called them every other day up until the 30th and every time I called I would hear "sorry it hasn't arrived yet".  I didn't call on the 31st.  I called on 1 Feb and then they said they received it and gave me my case number.  Go figure.  I don't want to sound like I'm not grateful but just an interesting situation compared to others.
