1040X to Update to Married Filing Jointly

Has anyone successfully filed a 1040X to amend previous year's returns fro married filing separately to married filing jointly? If so, did the IRS ask you for any evidence? TurboTax says not to include any supporting documents unless requested by the IRS.

My spouse had no foreign income during 2016 and 2017, so I'm getting a really nice return if this works, and I'm finding it too good to be true!

No supporting docs need to be included with the mailing of the amended return. If they want any documentation they'll send a letter.

Note: Processing can take 3-4 mos. for an amended return. Give or take and with the shutdown they're probably backed up even moreso.
