N400 Interview and IRS Back taxes

Hello VJers,

I will have my Naturalization interview very soon and i have a question if someone can help me out. I applied based on 3 years marriage. When we filled our 2017 taxes, we owed the IRS around $6000. This was due to the fact that my wife made a mistake on her W4  at work and little taxes were taken. We have a payment plan with the IRS which has our names on it because we filed jointly.I'm i liable for her mistake and is this going to result in a denial. I have 5 years with of tax transcripts and its only 2017 that we owed. I intend to take to take the IRS payment plan and W2's for 2017  and evidence of payments made to the IRS and explain to the IO. Is this going to result in the denial of my N400? Thanks

Not a problem as long as you are on a payment schedule with the IRS. Owing taxes & not paying them, that could cause problems.

Since you are able to prove the payment plans to IRS, it won't affect the good moral character requirement.

Not a problem at all. As long as you filed and having a payment plan now and maintaining the payments as agreed on with the IRS, you should be fine.

01/07/2019: Withdrawn at the interview due to divorce and another 751 filed after the divorce and switched to the waiver case

 

I-751 #2 - March 2017 (Waiver)

April 2017: Bio-metrics completed

01/07/2019: Interview

01/14/2019: Approval Notification via Email

03/15/2019: Had to file I90 since no card was sent

01/28/2020: Card is being produced (I751)

04/22/2020: Filled N336 to appeal the decision
