Received 2 oath letters this morning, with different dates!!

Hi,

I received my oath letter today - well I actually received 2!  Just like buses you wait for ever, then 2 come at once!

Both oath letters had different dates.

One is for tomorrow!!  And I’m away traveling.

The second is for the first week of February.  Which I can make.

When I checked the documents online when I received email notification a week ago that the letter had been mailed, I saw the February 8th date so thought I was ok to travel for work this week.

I called the helpline but the wait was 110 mins to speak to a T2 officer, and I am boarding a flight, so I’ll try again tonight, but I wouldn’t even have time to mail them a letter saying I can’t go to the oath ceremony in 1 days time.

Has anyone ever seen this?  If I turn up with a valid oath letter on Feb 8th, could they say - you should have been there on Jan 25th!!

I’ll call a T2 officer later, as I’m just boarding a 8 hour flight, but curious what the board thinks.  Appreciate any helpful responses.  Thanks!

No they have the same notice date.

Well that is a heck of an issue. I don't imagine you would be the first person to ever miss one if you were actually supposed to be there tomorrow. Would still try to talk to someone if possible though.

Yeah thanks ThomasNC1988 for responding to me, appreciate any feedback from anyone.

I guess the silence on the board suggests it is quite an unusual scenario, as others who have usually experienced issues that others ask about are quite quick to chime in.

Anyway, you are right - I am going to set my alarm and call at 3am tomorrow morning (I’m on a business trip in Honolulu so the time difference is a COMPLETE BALL ACHE)

The lady I spoke to today at USCIS said it was definitely a matter for a T2 officer to advise on, so I shall call tomorrow and hopefully get some decent advice.

My final thought about the whole thing, is that they can’t reasonably expect to send a Oath letter out 2 days before the oath.  I mean, you aren’t technically allowed to hand deliver mail to USCIS as far as I have learned, and any letter I mailed would arrive at their office, probably sit in a big mail pile and definitely not get processed until way after the 10.30am oath ceremony start time.

As a final final thought, my housekeeper at my home in Miami (I am a Miami field office filer, in case that makes a difference) said that when all sorts of members of her family went through this in the last few years, USCIS Miami would send you letters with several dates and you would just show up to one of them, which ever was convenient.  That’s what she told me today when I asked her about it. Now whether that is true or just an urban myth, I have no idea.

I’ll call in the morning and feed back here just in case this happens to anyone else and can provide a useful insight into this unusual problem.

Thanks again Thomas - I appreciate you taking time to respond to my post sir.  Cheers!

I can't see USCIS doing this in the recent past.  In my thinking, It wouldn't make sense for a person to be able to show up whenever convenient since they process/create the physical certificate ahead of time.  Different time-blocks, maybe, but I couldn't see them offering different dates altogether.

Right now the only person who could clear this up for you would be a L2 officer---so reach out to them as soon as you can---absolutely seems a clerical error on their part.

HI Just to update you all.  I had to get up at 3.30am to get in line to speak to a T2 officer and fortunately it was not a long wait for the call back.  15 mins.

I spoke to a really nice T2 officer who was surprised by my issue and went away for a few mins to look in detail at my file.

He came back and said basically “it was a clerical error” and was picked up.  A letter was mailed to me “unscheduling” the January 25 ceremony and the Feb 8th one was correct and the one I was scheduled for.

So all good in the end - they don’t half like to keep us on our toes right to the end!!

Appreciate your replies to this, and hopefully it will help anyone in future who has a similar issue.  Cheers!
