Hi all

I'm the beneficiary for a K1 fiance visa in the UK. We're really happy to be near the finish line as we've waited years to finally make the move but I need to know a few things.

I have now filled in DS-160 visa as I had to wait on getting a new passport. I know I now need to do the medical and get the visa interview booked. The I-I29F mentions a 4 month limit ending at the latter half of Feburary - does this apply to the entire process and mean I need to get the medical and visa interview done before the end of February - or was that only till I started my side of the process?

Just I work as a cover teacher but jobs have been a little hard to come by since the winter holiday ended. I was hoping for a bit more time to get the money together, but if I need to move quick - then want to make sure I know for sure.

In theory it is visa in hand,  however the consulate can and typically will extend the validity date for up to one year

YMMV

So what do I need to do to ensure it doesn't expire? My plan is to discuss with family need to get medical done at least and get that funded,  do I call embassy to say "hey can we get an extension?"

Basically just want to make sure I don't make the process harder or waste it now we've gotten this far

Best bet is email the IV unit at the consulate and make the request

YMMV

Hello. I would also like to add... I would not do my medical until I knew I was ready to finish the process. I say this because one of your comments sounded as if you'd like to do the medical but postpone the interview.

Someone may correct me but the exam results are only good for 6 months after it was done. And unless you want to do another for the AOS, I think you should hold off?

Again. If this is misinformation, I hope someone will correct me but that is what I understood from doing all my research.

I hope nobody minds me bumping this just to update.

I messaged the London Embassy and they generally said I just needed a signed letter from my US-Citizen Partner formally confirming after the expiration date. But they did also send a letter despite filling in DS-160 to ask for me to respond if I was still interested (I had booked my interview a day later to when the letter was date-marked so I assume might be overlap)

In the end I found it easier to book my appointment and then the medical because yeah - they said the results are only valid for a short time when I did initially try to book. They implied a slightly shorter window than 6 months however.
