I am going to apply for my N-400 soon and was wondering if I need my wife's birth certificate during the application or will I be asked for it during the actual interview ? She is a natural born citizen and her passport lists the place of birth as the US. We don't have her original birth certificate and was wondering if we had to apply for a copy ? Any guidance would be appreciated !

You do not need your spouse’s BC for the application, but it is evidence that may be asked for at the interview according to the N400 instructions.

Btw, no one gets the original BC, but if you don’t have a certified copy, then I would get with the clerk’s office where she was born and request one.

Good Luck!

You are the applicant and your wife is US citizen.  Then your birth certificate is needed during interview.  Her passport is the prove of US citizenship and you need to provide a copy of it during application process.  Hope, you are planning to apply online
