My friend got N400 denial

Hello everyone, 

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend. 

Here's the situation:

He became an LPR, not sure when

before his 5-year residency requirement, he left the US for more than a year (Like a year and a half)
When the time came to apply for citizenship, he applied but got denied when they requested evidence. 
The letter that came in the mail said to apply after 4 years and one day after breaking the continued absence from the US. 

How complicated is his situation? He wants to apply again because it has been 4 years now since that date. 

 

Any advice is welcome

If he otherwise meets the requirements, then he should be fine. The past denial isn’t held against him. He just didn’t meet the requirements last time so he should check and double check that he does before spending the time and money again.

So there's no chance he lost his LPR status at the time he applied back 4 years ago? that's what some of his friends are telling him

No, if he was allowed back in the country on his 10 year greencard then he is fine.

Exactly. He was admitted back in so he is fine.

There was a chance not to have been admitted since he was abroad over 1 year. But that point is moot now.

I would apply online. I believe it will tell you whether you're eligible or not
