After GC, do you have to go to the office to get a new SSN, or are there other request options?

I have a conditional green card, so I believe that I'm now eligible to get an SSN card without the DHS authorization only note. Can I request a new one by mail, or do I have to go to the social security office?

Do I have to give this one back while I wait for a new one? And in that case, since I have two (one issued in 2015 on TN, one in 2018 on EAD)--can I give the 2015 one back and keep the 2018 one just in case, like if the new one gets lost in the mail and I need to show it for some reason?

You to have to go in person to get it removed. Dw it is not much of a hassle to do.
