Help - was just told that USCIS won't send out a second I-797 Receipt Notice if the first one is lost in the mail?

I'm on hold waiting for Tier 2 officer at USCIS. Is it true that they can't send out a second I-797 Notice if the first one is lost in the mail?

Update: What we never received in the mail is the extension letter. That's what we need. We were told to go to a local USCIS field office to get one. I guess that's what we'll do. I'll update this post as this progresses.

It's true USCIS won't send you a second notice because there is nothing call second notice by the USCIS , since you have already been advice to get a copy of the notice from the local USCIS office , I thinks that must be the best idea to get things done .

Good Luck .

So we never received the extension letter. We filed in September, check cashed in September, NOA1 Notice received via email on October 22nd, never received the notice in the mail, and no updates to the case since the email notice, and no extension letter received.

My families green cards are expiring in two weeks.

Is my only option to make a Info pass appointment at my local USCIS office, which is a 90 minute drive through LA traffic?

Myself and my wife would have to take the day off from work to do it, and I'm worried that it will only result in having us sit in at USCIS office for 4 hours and then probably be told they can't help me or do anything for me? Has anyone else had any luck going to a USCIS Field office to pick up their extension letter?

Hoping someone else might have some insights into the best course of action here.

UPDATE: Well this is seriously F'D up. My local field office has this notice when I try to make an info pass appointment:

 Important office information

This office is not accepting walk-in requests or scheduling InfoPass appointments.

What the heck am I supposed to do now?

Alright I suggest you call the USCIS main office about this issue, even if they can't provide you any paper work but they will surely tell you what to do about this problems.

Good luck

We also did not receive anything saying that the green card is extended.  The I-797 no longer says that.  We just did biometrics and asked the officer about this and were told we need to call the 800 number on the I-797, and if that doesn't work to make an InfoPass appointment.  I guess it goes without saying that after trying twice (on hold now for third call) the calls won't go through to a person.   (it says press 6 for a representative, but no matter how many times you press 6-or any other number-nothing happens) This of course means we (and all of you) have no documentation that we are legal.   Has anyone received any kind of answer about this?

Finally got a person.  Were told we should have rec'vd an extension letter.  Are they just failing to send these out?  Now another trip to the USCIS office.

All locations generally say that. I've heard refreshing around midnight local time is the only way to get an appointment. They all fill up so quickly!
