We're completing our I-864 and at Part 6 section 23.b:

(Optimal) I have attached photocopies of my federal income tax returns for my second and third most recent tax year.

Why is that even on the form? Everyone on here says send 3 years.

I just dont get it what is the point?

We're just going to send the last year 2017 and see what happens.

I'm going to only submit last years IRS Transcripts too. Do we have to fill out the amounts in Q 24a, b and c if we aren't submitting those IRS Transcripts?

I've been looking into it a bit more, actually looking at the legislation.

According to INA 213a:

(6) Demonstration of means to maintain income.-

(A) In general.-

(i) Method of demonstration.-For purposes of this section, a demonstration of the means to maintain income shall include provision of a certified copy of the individual's Federal income tax return for the individual's 3 most recent taxable years and a written statement, executed under oath or as permitted under penalty of perjury under section 1746 of title 28, United States Code, that the copies are certified copies of such returns.

We only submitted last years tax return with the corresponding w2 forms. If we were to go back looking at INA 213a we should've submitted 3 years returns.

We just wanted to keep it simple. There is no point over-complicating matters. I'll update the thread if we get checklisted

I am preparing my I 864. my income is above the poverty guidelines. total number of household size is 6 in I864 but my income is enough even if the household size will be 7.

in that case I am planning to send only 2017 tax return transcript with my I864.

will that be enough..?
