Interview but no passport

Folks I have a problem.  My wife's green card interview is in 9 days, however her new passport has not yet arrived and her old passport was taken as part of processing for the new passport.  Over a month ago, before we received the news about our green card interview, we visited the Philippines consulate in Los Angeles and requested a name change on the passport so that hew new passport would reflect her married name, however they took our passport along with all the application papers.  We have a USPS tracking number that just says "label created, not yet in system", which basically means the new passport has not yet been sent out.  I believe what they do is they send the old passport to Philippines who then send it back, but either way, what can we do now?  I don't believe they'll let us go anywhere without her passport.  She does have her social security card but no real form of ID, other than her old expired passport that she renewed in Philippines, and copies of the new passport (with her maiden name).

How about her EAD card? Tho, the passport is one primary requirement tho, you should have not have her passport name change knowing you'll have an  upcoming AOS interview.

Having her passport can take weeks to months to arrive.

Call and check with the consulate.   Our situation is a bit different in that we live in Mexico while applying for CR-1.  My wife applied for her new Filipinas Passport in Mexico City.  They didn't keep her old one and we had the new one in two weeks.

We had no problem using the passport in my wife's maiden name at the AOS interview where we were approved.  Maybe any unexpired government issued photo ID would have been ok, though I would not want to go to the interview without the passport based on our experience.
