N-400 membership question and discrepancy with I-485

When I filed the I-485 I forgot to list 2 organizations (the question asking to list all clubs, organizations, etc), one is a US-based academy of science associated with my university and the other is a labor union associated with my current employers (also US). They simply never popped up in my mind when I was filing out the form (I became member as soon as I started my grad school/employment). I plan to list both organizations on the N-400, which will create a discrepancy with the I-485. Can I simply explain this at the naturalization interview? Is it a big deal?

 

I understand it wouldn't have made me inadmissible to be a member of those  (one is basically a university-associated library and the other is an employment union) but can there be trouble for the N-400 step? Thanks!

I sure hope not, i used a lawyer to file for my  I-485 and no organization was added(even though i was a member of my church). I filed my n400 online and i added my church membership(not a very active one, but a member nonetheless). 

 

I'm not so bothered about it (and you shouldn't either) because they're not organizations that are a cause for concern (i hope, lol)

Not an issue don’t worry about it. They’re looking but for organizations with security related issues or memberships in communist or other organizations deemed a threat to U.S. national security.

Thank you! I'm not worried about the nature of these organizations (they are perfectly fine American organizations).

 

What concerns me is that USCIS might interpret the unintentional omission as a (non-material) misrepresentation on I-485. I know that the non-material misrepresentation cannot result in denial or revocation of I-485 even if intentional (which, again this wasn't). But there is a question on N-400 about ever lying to obtain immigration benefits. I will, of course, answer NO because I have never done that (and never will). However, couldn't this answer itself be interpreted as a misrepresentation and the N-400 denied based on it? Like, how does one admit to an unintentional error (omission) while still maintaining that there was no misrepresentation. Also, what happens if N-400 is denied based on an unintentional misrepresentation and you reapply in 5 years? Wouldn't this create an infinite loop of denials?

No you’re over thinking this. This can’t be interpreted as material misrepresentation. The reason being the outcome of your I-485 adjudication would never have been affected in any way by this material itself. That’s the baseline for what constitutes material misrepresentation which is the willful omission of material that could’ve adversely affected an underlying petition. There’s a fat chance this stuff won’t even be brought up on your interview and if it does then lay it there. Even if it does come up it won’t be any issue.

Thanks for your input, however, please note that I'm aware that this was not a *material* misrepresentation so I'm not worried about the I-485. I get that. I'm worried about the discrepancy between I-485 and N-400. For N-400 it doesn't need to be material, only intentional (which it wasn't), for them to deny the benefit. But I'll just have to get used to live with this uncertainty for a few years. I'll explain it at the interview. (Why would anyone willingly hide a membership in an university's union or a fancy science library?) I hope they'll understand...
