My wife had an interview on 9th August 2018 at Islamabad Embassy, and after couple of questions, CO congratulated my wife and informed her that she will get the passport back in 2 weeks with the visa, its been over 2 weeks and I sent an email to embassy, and they replied back the below.

"Thank you for writing to our office. Your immigrant visa case has been refused under INA Section 221(g) for administrative processing, an integral part of the visa adjudication and issuance process that can neither be expedited nor waived. Unfortunately, it is difficult to predict the amount of time the processing will take and timing varies based on the individual circumstances of each case. The visa application will be reconsidered when administrative processing is complete."

When i check visa status on ceac, it says READY and last updated is 28 August, this is when the Embassy answer my email, before it was last updated 17th August. I have also called NVC and they are mentioning that it is under Administrative review and Embassy does not require any further paper works from our side.

I am very confused, that why it is refused after the CO said you will get the passport in two weeks and they do not require any further paper work from our side.

Did this happen to anyone else? If you have any input on this please share.

Thanks!

It depends on the cause for AP. Since no documents re being requested, it could be verification of documents, additional background checks, etc.

If I had to throw out a pure guess, background checks are the likely cause coming from Pakistan (it's not uncommon with the Islamabad embassy).

The visa is not refused yet....it's pending completion of final processing.

Administrative processing is something everyone goes through. As above it says "cannot be waiver and no definitive timeline can be specified" as AP can be 2-3 days, 2-3 weeks, 2-3 months, or even 1+ years.

Is it still currently under AP? If so, then it is still being reviewed and processed. They are doing final checks on their end and have to be patient.... if it is "refused" then they found something in the AP process that deemed it to be able to be denied.

The CO saying you're approved just means the interview, the AP can still find things to change that outcome.

Good to hear! Hoping to hear back from the embassy. Do you know if have to wait certain number of days before I send another email to Embassy and ask for the reason of AP?

There's no minimum...once every week or couple weeks is reasonable IMO.

Hi Wahab,

I've been given the exact response for K1 fiance visa even though after the interview I was told I will be issued visa. Can you please share what happened in your case ? Was it approved after administrative processing ? Were additional documents requested ?

Thanks.
