We received our NOA2 last Friday and are waiting for our case number from NVC.  While waiting, we are busy gathering documents she’ll need for the interview.

My fiancée has her original birth certificate, which I know is a required document. Will she need another “official” copy of it issued by Ukraine to leave at the embassy or will a photocopy work? Or does she simply need to show her original birth certificate and then will receive it back?

Thank you for any guidance.

She will need to go to the interview with the original as well as a  copy. The origin will be returned to her.

Thanks for your reply!

Do you mean photocopy or an “official” copy?

Please note that by no means a Ukrainian may lose control over the original Birth Certificate. It is very difficult to replace. For my interview I will prefer an original, a notarized copy just in case and a photocopy. By the way, all authorities in Ukraine know that and also take care of your Birth Certificate. Your fiancee, when handing over her BC to anyone at the Embassy may ask when she's going to get it back. They will understand.
