hey chris duffy! yeah as an expat myself to different asian countries, i do usually do the take things with me on excess baggage going out of the country. but whenever i needed to go home and bring home some of my stuff and furniture, it was easy cause there are many shipping providers within asia that send to the philippines. it seems sending to the philippines is easy and cheap but getting things out of our country is so hard.  but this is a more permanent move, and moving my entire life, which means a lot of my prized collections of antiques, paintings, decors and furniture which definitely will not fit balikbayan boxes. my parents wants a clean sweep like nothing left here at all in the philippines so they don't have to take care/keep anything. which is why i'm a bit stuck on limbo on this and just have to send everything to america. i gave away like 90% of my clothes, and gave up a lot of my things and gave it to different people who help me in my community and my maids and driver. but those art stuff that are valuable, hard to find are definitely something i would want and need to keep and are unique to asia which i can't get.

but i will for sure be doing an excess baggage going to the us for me, my mom and my dad when they go to attend my upcoming wedding. i'm trying to rally some of my family/friends to come to so that they can take my stuff on the plane on their baggage allowance.

Have you looked into getting a shipping container?  This is what others have done when moving large amount of items in and out of Philippines.

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

Is the art valuable? Or personally valuable? If it's something you like as opposed to investment, you could have it deframed and rolled (assuming it's painted or printed), if it's statuary or such not an option.

I do understand.    Bringing them to the USA would not be cheap for sure.

El Centro huh?     Some like it HOT!!

yeah i know it won't. i tried doing one from jakarta to america before but couldn't find one also to save my life. so i had them shipped here to manila first. they do mean a lot to me and they come from famous artists which i bought before they got really famous, so prices for them also definitely appreciated so much.  i don't have receipts for most of them since i buy them straight from the artists in the villages/homes before its actually sold in galleries.

yeah el centro cause my soon to be husband works in the us navy an is assigned in the naval air facility/air base there. so no choice but to live there just to close the distance and be together!

yes i have been checking. well, i don't think i can fill out a whole container, so i had to keep looking for LCL... so maybe like 1/4 or 1/8 of the container.... or 1/10th. i have my paintings in unconventional big box sizes, so they are flat, but tall and big. i shipped them from indonesia to manila that's why they're still in 4 large boxes with multiple paintings inside. the problem with the shipping containers is that most of them do it for commercial items not personal items. that's where i hit a dead end with some companies. thanks for suggesting it. yeah i figured i can't do those small parcels and boxes fedex usually offers. so it's balikbayan boxes or lcl ones.

thanks randyandyuni for tuning in. most of them are valuable in terms of artist and yeah i picked out expensive paintings that have appreciated in price. so i would say all of them are of value. even the wood carvings and some of the antique buddha bronze statues are too (the ones you usually see at museums). most are repros but they are rare "images" not the easy ones to find. so they still have some value that appreciates in price too. some paintings though have a very thick texture, i rolled some up but it damaged some of the paintings cause it sticks out, so i'll be restoring some of them myself but yeah some just have to be sent via frame.

Ah yes, I know where the naval facility is there, rode through El Centro a number of times on my way to Oceanside.      Nice thing is San Diego is just over the mountains from where you will be .. :)

Haven't used them myself, but a friend of mine did and was happy with their service. I don't know rates or anything else about them. Max will get you sorted.

i see. well, i'm happy to hear that your friend was happy with their service. i went and dropped them a private message on fb and then emailed them. hopefully i'll hear from them within this week. thanks so much for the recommendation. and these are some of the gems that you get in forums like these which i probably wouldn't have found via google since it's a company from thailand. like who would have guessed? i want as many options i can get and canvas prices and then go have them sent. thanks again!

I have spoken to you before about living in El Centro right, I could have sworn that I have.

hey cyberfx1024, yes you have. i do remember it. but you moved to the east coast now in nc, so too bad for chances of possibly meeting up there on one of your visits.

Never hung around San Diego much, hear there are lots of Filipinos, and Jollibee of course.
