I have submitted my n-400 application online and I would like to know your experience filing online and if that help with the processing time.

 

Hope everyone here is doing well with their processes

There are a lot of threads around here on the pros and cons of filing online, suggest you check them out.

For me, it went fast processing-wise----everyone's mileage is going to vary of course...speed mostly depends on the field office handling your case.

There is a thing that have me so down.  Today when I went to my online account  saw "estimated case completion time" February 2020 (19 months). I almost die. Is that exactly or every case is different.

dont worry. Minnesota field office is estimating up to 22 months

 H1b ---> EB-1A (I-140) ---> I-485 AOS(Green Card) ---> 5 years --->  US Citizenship N400 application

  • Day 0:  11/16/2017, e-filing N400
  • Day 306:  9/18/2018,  interview day--passed and in line for oath.
  • Day 332: 10/15/2018, Oath Day

Don't hold the estimation time to heart----members have reported it goes up and down spontaneously, and it doesn't always fit the actual time it takes.

Mine was 18 months when I filed; actual time it took was 96 days.

Mine was projected at 19 months when I filed online - but I finished in about 5 months.

 

Everyone's experience will vary based on where their ASC is, how busy those processing centers are are, and a bunch of other factors.

 

Where folks can potentially get stuck are the name and background check.  From what I have observed, folks move quickly from the time they receive their NOA up to biometrics - and then the time varies between biometrics and the citizenship interview, and then again between the interview and the oath ceremony.

 

Of course, life happens too - there may be RFEs, some folks get a form that says while they passed their civics test and English test the application needs further review before approval, some folks reshcedule their biometrics, interview or oath taking.

02-23-2018: Sent N-400 Application online

02-23-2018: Date on NOA, retrieved from online account

02-23-2018: Date on Biometrics Appointment Letter (Biometrics Appointment at Jacksonville ASC on March 13, 10:00 a.m.)

03-08-2018: Biometrics complete

04-05-2018: Case status updated - Interview Scheduled on May 10, 2018, 10:15 a.m. :D

05-10-2018: Citizenship Interview - Passed English and Civics Tests, Recommended for Approval! :D 

06-19-2018: Received email and text notification: Naturalization Ceremony Scheduled; waited for letter to be uploaded on online account - it has been set on Wednesday, July 25, 3:00 p.m.

07-25-2018: I am now a U.S. Citizen!

I did a paper file. I filed in January 2018 and got my interview next week. For me, there is no need to rush. I prepared to wait the duration of the process.
