Travelling on expired greencard and extension letter past receipt date

Hello!

 

I am planning on traveling with my extension letter, however I was reading about the confusion between the letter expiring a year from the greencard date (November 2017) or expiring a year from the receipt date of the extension letter (September 2017).

 

I am traveling in October therefore if it is true about it being a year from when you get the ROC NOA then i am worried i run into problems. I will have had the letter for a year and nearly 2 months. I don't want to have to go get a stamp in my passport if it is not necessary, or if i may not even be allowed one.

 

Has anyone travelled with the extension letter being over a year from the receipt date and been fine, despite the letter saying it extends one year from GREEN CARD expiration date?

The letter itself states "Your conditional resident status is extended for 18 months from the expiration date on your Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card (also known as a Green Card)". If your letter was for 12 months, then replace that with the "18" in the quote.

The date you receive the letter is irrelevant.  It extends the date on the actual card.

That's what i thought, i did read on here that it was from the receipt date and it got me all worried! Thanks for the double confirmation though, makes me feel less nervous!

That question comes up from time to time, although I don't know why...........government forms and letters are almost always very literal in nature.........good luck...enjoy your trip.
