It is interesting that the EU (excluding the UK) had the largest increase behind China, India and Turkey.  I thought the EU was all about CO2 reduction.

The United States in 2017 experienced the largest decline in carbon emissions in the world, according to a recent report.

The American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank, said the U.S. last year had a growth rate in carbon emissions of -0.5 percent and a decrease of 42 million tons, citing data from oil giant BP's Statistical Review of World Energy, published in June.

Last year marked the ninth time in this century that the U.S. has had the largest decline in emissions in the world; 2017 was also the third consecutive year that emissions in the U.S. declined, although the decline was the smallest over the three-year period.

Ukraine had the world's second largest decline, with a growth rate of -10.1 percent and a 28.1-million-ton decrease in emissions.

Carbon emissions from energy increased worldwide last year, growing by 1.6 percent and 426.4 million tons. China led that growth, increasing its emission totals by 119 million tons at a rate of 1.6 percent. Since the turn of the century, China has had the world's largest surges in carbon emissions all but four times.

India, which ranked second behind China last year, had led the world in growing carbon emissions from 2014 to 2016.

Really, CO2 emissions have been falling for years in the US. I think we have seen reduced emissions every year since 2005. Many EU countries have outpaced the US over that time, but when you look at one individual year, you may not see the whole picture.

Renewable energy has been a big factor, but 2005 was the year the US started the big switch from coal to natural gas (shale), which has had a huge incidental impact on reducing emissions.

The downside to CO2 is that given the nature of the earth's atmosphere, everyone has to be on board.

Part if the reason may be the  shift from Nuclear to coal as a temporary measure by Germany post Fukashima when they closed the nuke plants. Thus is being replaced by renewables in the long run.

Not sure of the numbers.

Agreed, hence no need for a do nothing accord just to feel good.

Okay, my dear climate change deniers... Explain to me why so many countries right now are suffering from climate change? Even airlines are preparing for it. If it's not accelerated by us humans, how come changes are happening way faster than it should if it wasn't manmade?

Avoiding the question already? Or are you really that unaware about what's going on in this world?

I just don’t like being labeled negatively simply for questioning something that is so complex, no scientist can truly understand all the variables that impact global climate.  It is not as simple as just CO2, there are a multitude of other factors, but if you truly believe man has caused this, then I guess the only thing we can do is eliminate mankind.

That is pretty much what we're already doing. We're killing off ourselves because there isn't enough effort done to slow it down because there are so many people out there who think what is going on right now is normal.

But just look at Sweden at the moment. 86F+ in parts of Sweden that is lucky if they get up to 70 in the summer. Heat advisory issued for the second time in Swedish history. Forest fires everywhere. And it's not just Sweden. It's everywhere in different forms and different severities. Even Airlines are preparing for it because of the hotter weather effect aircraft as well. Air gets denser. More lighting which is unpredictable. And then we have people who just say "two scoops of ice cream" and stick their heads in the sand.

Well, it appears that the US is doing its best to reduce at least one of the highest profile forcing factors, but Europe is lagging way behind.  Considering how progressive the EU is supposed to be it seems a bit hypocritical of them to be lecturing the US over Kyoto, or Paris, or any of the other meaningless accords.  I am all for increasing efficiency and reducing CO2 and it makes me happy that the US is essentially leading the world in this aspect, maybe the other countries like China, India, the EU, should start stepping up to the plate.

Which I find ironic considering how all people in power who don't even believe in climate change and want to reverse everything they've done.

Why don't you tell us? You haven't answered my previous post about how you're so sure everything is bs.

I am old enough to remember when climate change was global warming
