Change of address (with pending applications)

Hi everyone,

 

I currently have a pending I-485, I-765 and I-131. However, as our lease is expiring, I will be moving and will have a different mailing address next month.

 

According to https://www.uscis.gov/addresschange I need to complete two steps (file Form AR-11 and change address on any pending applications [online]). What exactly does it mean? It seems like AR-11 and the link given in Step 2 is exactly the same. How many forms do I need to file? I have 3 pending applications - does this mean I file 4 separate ones? (1 AR-11, and 1 each for I-485, I-765 and I-131)?  Sorry if this has been addressed before, but I just wanted all bases to be covered.

 

Also, I am moving out 7/28/2018 so when is the ideal time to file for the change of address? Do I do it before I move in, or after?

TIMELINE FOR AOS from B1/B2 visa

 

05/21/2018 – Sent I-485, I-765 and I-131 packets via Fedex (Chicago Lockbox)
05/23/2018 – Packet delivered to USCIS (0 days).
05/29/2018 – Received text/email notification NOA1 (6 days)
06/08/2018 – Received biometrics appointment letter/I-797C hardcopy in mail (16 days). Priority Date on NOA says 06/01/18.

06/18/2018 – Biometrics done (26 days)

06/21/2018 – Case status changed to "Case is Ready to be scheduled for an interview" (29 days)

06/22/2018 – Courtesy letter (reminder to bring I-693 medical report to interview) received in mail (30 days). Letter dated 06/14/18

 

07/10/2018 – Submitted change of address
07/14/2018 – Email from USCIS confirming successful change of address

 

09/15/2018 – Online status changed to "Approved" for I-765
09/17/2018 - Received I-797 (NOA) hardcopy of approved I-765 in mail

09/18/2018 – Online status changed to "New card is being produced" for I-765

09/26/2018 – Received EAD/AP card in mail. No online or text updates received.

 

09/27/2018 – Applied for SSN at SSA (in person)
10/05/2018 – Received SS card in mail

 

06/25/2019 – Received email notification that case status has changed to "Interview was Scheduled" (400 days)

07/03/2019 – Received hardcopy of notice for interview (note: letter was sent to my old address, and was forwarded to my new address)

07/29/2019 – Interview held @ Sacramento office (1045hrs)
07/29/2019 – Case status changed to "Initial Review" (2100hrs)
07/30/2019 – Case status changed to "Card/Document Production" (0100 hrs)
08/01/2019 – Case status changed to "Card was mailed to me"
08/02/2019 – AOS approval notice received in mail

08/02/2019 – Case status changed to "Card was picked up by USPS"
08/05/2019 – Green Card in hand

Just file that online form. I think one is enough. 

 

I believe you have 10 days to change the address once you move.

As the instructions say in the link you provided, you can complete Step 1 and Step 2 at the same time by doing the AR-11 online:

 

Use our convenient Online Change of Address system to complete steps 1 and 2 at the same time. Once you complete Form AR-11 online - the system will also provide you the opportunity to change your address on any pending or recently approved applications. 

 

Completing the process online:

  • You can change your address online and update your address on pending applications and petitions at the same time using our Online Change of Address system. 
  • The Online Change of Address system will first prompt you to complete Form AR-11 electronically.
  • Once you complete Form AR-11, the system will prompt you to complete the second step and update your address on any pending or recently approved applications and petitions.

Also---just note this part in the instructions as well (for your USC spouse):

 

U.S. Citizens

U.S. citizens are not required to file a Form AR-11 and can make a change of address on pending cases via our Online Change of Address page or by calling 1-800-375-5283.   U.S. Citizens who do not have an application or petition pending with USCIS are only legally required to notify USCIS of a change of address if they have previously submitted a Form I-864 on behalf of someone who has become a permanent resident. If you have previously submitted a Form I-864 for someone who immigrated to the U.S., you must complete a Form I-865 within thirty days of the completion of your move.

 

 

As @Roel mentioned, you are required to submit the AR-11 within 10 days of moving.

Gotcha. I was really confused about AR-11 because it seemed like both links pointed at the same form. I guess I'll only know when I file the change on the day I move out.

You file the AR-11 only once.  The system will ask if you have any pending applications...you must then provide the receipt number of each petition you filed.
