Could Disney deny employment to obese people?

Not unless your job has a height/weight requirement--basically any sort of character.

They make women's costumes for other jobs from size 0 to 24, IIRC, and if you're bigger than that, there are also generic work-anywhere costumes you can wear instead (basically a Disney polo shirt and khakis).

Disney deny dreads but im sure they hire gays lol.

... And this is relevant how? Do gay people look different from straight people?

Ah come on!! those were funny LOL  most of my friends work there, 60% of them are gay, a lot of people there are gay, it wasnt a discriminating comment, if you worked there you would understand

I did work there, as I said. In 1998 and 1999. Attractions. Epcot Seas/Imag. And yes, of course a lot of my co-workers were gay. I was always proud to work for a company that provided benefits to same-sex partners, it was one of the things about the corporate culture that I admired.

I don't see how it's either funny or relevant to say that "Disney deny [sic] dreads but im [sic] sure they hire gays" like there's something wrong with that. This *was* a thread about appearance and the implication in that comment was that there's something wrong with hiring gays but not hiring people with dreadlocks. Sexual orientation is not relevant to the discussion and hiring gay people (with no dreadlocks) but not people with dreadlocks (straight or not) is a perfectly reasonable policy given Disney's reasoning.

As to the other, someone asked whether Disney would deny employment based on weight, and I gave them a correct answer. Disney does not deny employment based on weight unless the job one is applying for has a height-weight requirement, like Characters.

It makes sense to me about the dreadlocks or having long hair. Disney parks are full of machine operated rides. Employees work near the machines or they are allowed access to walk by machinery. It made sound crazy. But they probably don't want someone's hair getting caught in these machines and ripping a person's melon from their body. ;)

locks can be neat and short. It should be taken on a case by case bases.

lol this thread is funny..

locks can't be worn, same reason why some jobs won't allow you to grow a goatee, only a moustache, or nothing at all..same reason you can only have tattoos in 'hidden places', or if u have a tattoo in ur arm, u can only get a job where people can't see you..same reason in retail u can't wear noserings, or u have to conceal them...

When you show up to an interview for a job, NO MATTER WHAT JOB OR COMPANY, the first thing that stands out is your appearence. And judged on THAT alone, you can be denied a position. They dont have to tell you to fix your hair, they will just deny you a job.

Appearence is the most important part of the job at disney, i mean cmon it is the biggest attraction in the world. They want their ppl looking clean and neat. The only one allowed with dreads at disney is the guy who plays the part of Capt Jack Sparrow, AND THAT IS HIS UNIFORM.

as far as discrimination, pfffttttt, thats just the easy way out of feeling rejection.

very good!

To the OP:

if you are a Hiring manager for Disney. would you hire you for the postion looking

the way you do? think about it. because, as the manager you have guidelines

and standards set by the company. it is also your employees and their professional style

that will help you reach your goals. - so would you hire you? also how would you deal

with an employee that was resistant to change <such as you> this is what the manager

was thinking.

I'm not the OP, and I have no idea what she looks like, but that was a bit of an offensive statement. Are you saying that she looks bad, or dirty or inappropraite because of her dreads? I mean whats wrong with dreads? Take a look at some pictures here people. What is wrong with these hairstyles?

Actually many Black men are allowed to bypass this rule, even in the US military, of shaving their goatee. The "powers that be" realized that it was not in the best interest or ethical to make them cut it due to the nature of Black hair. The constant shaving produce outrageous ingrown hairs, and the facial hair cannot be shaved with a razor. They can clip it with hair clippers or a dry electric shaver but they cannot be asked to wet shave due to the skin infections it causes.

Now this doesnt mean that they are to let their goatee grow outta control and it becomes 1 huge dreadlock.....cause thats what will happen if they let it go. It just means not every idea works for every person, and if you are asking someone to change something about themselves that they cannot help then that is discrimination.

We're not talking about uniforms or clothing or nose rings or blue hair we're talking about dreadlocks. Which can be worn to be extremly neat, while leaving the hair in a natural and healthy state. This is for Black hair. I'm not exactly sure how others produce dreads, but I can imagine its a hard process and could look very disgusting if they try to manipulate the texture of their natural hair.

Every company has an image they need to uphold, and they have the final say...

When I was doing my internship, I wore a tiny diamond in the left side of my my nose. The supervisors doing grande rounds with me asked me to take it out-because it outs people off-especially elderly people. I understood that-and out it came. Some may have taken it as offensive-I found it to be quite pretty. To each his own...

Sorry to say, but dreads put some people off-and it's that simple. I have had various patients come in with them, and I consider myself open minded...but it puts me off too, as I am concerned as to their cleanliness when examining them. I have yet to examine a patient with dreads that I can give a thorough head exam to, and 99% of the people I have examined with them have carried an odor. Perhaps I just had some nasty people in my exam room, and I am ready for the flaming that may come my way-but I have to say, I am one of the people it it puts off...

But as I said before, to each his own. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Rose

Actually if those dreads were stinking then that was just a dirty head, cause dreads actually need to be washed regurally to actually "dread". The myth is that they are dirty and not washed. Yes I have seen some dirty and unwashed ones and those people really dont know what they are doing, or they are homeless.

mhh.. from all my friends.. I've never ever seen natural dreads just cuz they didn't cut their hair.. neither I've seen my friend's son with dreads when he decided he wouldn't cut his hair.. I still don't buy that dreads form 'naturally' cuz that's how black people's hair is..

true for the military, but first they must be diagnosed with pseudofolliculitis barbae by a military doctor, they are then granted a profile against shaving but the hairs must be kept trimmed to a length of less than 1/4".

What if a white person had dreads would Disney pull a discrimination card on them too?
