New Immigration Bills being voted on next week

What are the highlights in terms of family based immigration?

Not good news:

 

Goodlatte bill:

 

• The bill almost immediately eliminates family-based chain migration for all categories of immigration beginning at the end of the fiscal year, including those already on the visa waiting list. By my count, only 1 percent of the 4 million on the visa list will be grandfathered in. This is the most immediate and categorical immigration reform in over a half-century.

SAF act:

 

• Ends Chain Migration – Eliminates green card programs for relatives (other than spouses and minor

  children); creates a renewable temporary visa for parents of citizens to unite families at no cost to taxpayers

Yes that is the goodlate bill which has little chance of passing the house let alone the Senate. I think the compromise bill has a better chance at passing.

No bill that includes Amnesty will pass the Senate, let alone the President's office. Not this close to the midterms.

 

If you want to chain-migrate your families, now is the time.

Well...I just want to bring my son here. He will be 17 in August. If they keep the definition of child to under 21 I am safe. If they change it to 18- I may be screwed.

I think you will be fine for children but other family members not so much.

Yes but NOA2 will only happen after his 18th birthday. Unless they grandfather in old petitions...
