Hi,

I am married to a USC and was on a work visa from my company. We filed for AOS in late February and are now at the “ready to schedule” interview phase. I have lost job opportunities due to the crazy wait for the EAD now and truly our field office is known to interview people 1 year away. I am the main earner and truly the main one who files US and Canadian taxes.

I am seriously considering maybe to go back to Canada and complete consular processing versus waiting this out. It makes my taxes easier, possibly cheaper for a while and I could at least travel then and find a job in Canada again.

Has anyone ever done this? Is the wait for consular processing super long these days worse than AOS? Any advice helps...

Sounds like a waste of time and money you already invested in AOS.

If you want to live in the US not sure why you also want to bother finding jobs in Canada.

Just wait. You're close. Don't make things complicated for yourself.

On average the processing time from start to finish for a consulate petition is 1 year (give or take 1-2 months). I applied at a time there was some serious backlogs and it took 13 months in total.

By the time you pack up and move to Canada and find a job your EAD will probably have gotten approved.
