Hello everyone,

My fiancé and I have been on this journey of filing the I-129F for him to move to the States so we can get married. Our case is right now at the embassy but unfortunately we have to stop the process for now because his mother has been diagnosed with cancer, the Dr said she doesn't have that much longer to live. Now my question is what do I have to do to cancel the case or is it possible to extend it to 6 months or more? We don't wanna cancel the case but at this point he won't be able to move to the US yet.

Thank you.

If he hasn't had his interview yet let him contact the embassy to ask for possibilities to extend. I believe you have 6 months to do the interview but I could be mistaken. After the interview the visa is valid for another 6 months (depends on the validity of the medical, so check that!). No need to cancel right now as it will force you to start all over. Good luck and I'll pray for your fiance and his mother.

That is a legit reason to extend. (I’m so sorry)

you can just contact to the embassy. I believe you can extend up to 3 times equaling 1 year each extension would be for 4 months.
