Traveling to Canada dual

I am dual citizenship native to Canada. I am traveling to Canada, in June. My Canadian p/p, is in my former married name. Will bringing my divorce and marriage certificate be sufficient to show name change. My US p/p is current.  Ty! Sooo confusing.

I’m answering your question with a question, but can you use your US passport only? Or do you have to bring both? If you have a US passport, so US citizenship, I wonder why you would need your Canadian passport to come for a visit.

In any case, if you’re worried, I would bring all the paperwork necessary to show name change, divorce, etc. I’ve always been a little over-prepared for border crossings (but also never had issues).

You can just use an US passport to enter Canada.  While in Canada update your Canadian passport.  However you do not need to keep it active.

I plan on renewing my p/p while in Canada. This I believe keeps me dual. I just thought entering on my Canadian PP would be easier. Ty!

Uh no. You are a Canadian citizen regardless.  Unless you renounce citizenship in writing you will always be a Canadian citizen.

You’ll always be Canadian, no matter what, unless you outright file to renounce Canadian citizenship. An expired passport will prevent you from entering other countries as a Canadian, however.

 

Depending on how long your passport has been expired, and because of the name change, you may need to seek out guarantors again, AKA no longer a simple renewal of passport.

Yeah okay, so in that case do plan to seek our guarantors so you can restart the passport process from scratch. I think you’ll need two guarantors.

I believe I read it somewhere recently that you had to use your Canadian passport to enter Canada even if you were dual citizen. It is a new rule/law in Canada.

 

But I'm sure you can still use your US passport to enter

It is a new law however US/Canadian citizens are exempt and can use just their US passport.
