For me marrying an American was the LAST thing that I would have ever thought I would do. Honestly.. to move back to the US wasn't something I was looking to do (had lived here in the late 90's). Most of my family & friends were shocked, and even I was a bit surprised as well. But like so many others have said - love knows no boundries. Geographically speaking hubby & I are much closer than many of the others parts in my own country.. so it made the relationship possible (we were 12 hrs drive away from each other). But now that he's in my life, and we are together (it wouldn't matter which country we were living in), I know that this is where I belong.

I did not purposely choose an American, I had never even visited the States and had no inclination to do so. I met my husband on a game site and really never thought it would amount to much more than flirting. Here we are 6 years later married, living in the States after 3 years in the UK for him.

I want a women who is ambitious not aggressive, who will persevere all the difficulty life has to bring while having the head held up high, will not get depressed easily, kind, gentle, don't complain of little irrelevant things such as " you got me a dead rose for Valentine's Day and I'm mad at you," patient, caring, don't gossip, and can read my mind as I can read hers. Very hard to find that woman in the USA. I found one elsewhere.

Well, I certainly never went looking for a foreign SO. It just sort of "happened" that a very intelligent and beautiful Canadian woman and I hit it off and we've been together ever since!

My SO is no pushover. She's not most definitely not a "slave" or a "maid" or whatever. She may keep her apartment cleaner than I keep mine (I'm not a total slob, but I think she can actually see the smallest bits of dirt, whereas I just miss them) and she may know how to cook really well (as opposed to me, who relies on the microwave for just about everything), but she plans on teaching me a number of things.

She's also quite feminine. Not to the point of extreme absurdity (she doesn't take hours on end to do her makeup or hair) though, which is good, because I'd hate to have to wait that long. ;)

In many respects, it'd have been a lot easier if she were American or I was Canadian. But that's not how it is, so we just have to deal.

I've had my share of experiences in dating American women and they are quite varied. To say that American women are all of anything is probably not very accurate. However, in most of my experiences, I've found that the majority of American women are more shallow than foreign women. I don't believe it's necessarily their fault -- look at the American media. It promotes certain qualities and ideologies that, for the most part, just aren't that important in the grand scheme of things.

For instance... yes, it's nice if your partner has a "perfect body" but how realistic is this? Everyone has a few flaws, even supermodels (their problems are just airbrushed out). But I've found that most American women (and American men, for that matter) expect physical perfection. Well, that's just not going to happen.

To me, the most important feature of a potential mate is their personality. In a longterm relationship, you're going to end up spending more time just "being with" that person and talking with them and doing other non-sexual activities than sexual ones, so you better like and get along with their personality. If you're only interested in a good body, don't get into a relationship. Besides, as you age, looks tend to fade for both genders, so eventually, what you're left with is their personality.

That's just my opinion, though. :)

In college, I only see one or two women in Engineering. The rest are either liberal arts major, or choose the easy non-technical majors.

And?

I want to imply the women in my University generally don't challenge themselves as much.

Maybe some women (not saying all) have different interests and want to engage that interest? Just because someone (regardless of their sex) wants to do something different than you, it doesn't make them worth any less or say that they aren't challenging themselves.

I don't think that's necessarily the case. Presonally, I would have found a non-technical major more challenging than a technical one. People tend to do what they're good at.

Ok....ya know I had a good friend in High school. his family immigrated from Poland when he was in middle school, so english was not his first language. He was a math and science GENIUS...he could have majored in ANY technology field and done well.

He went to Yale and majored in English...you don't think that's challenging???

A challenge is when logical thinking is enforced. Memorization isn't really challenging because all it's doing is not thinking. I am stubborn in this area because if no one proves me wrong, I will continue to reign this ignorance.

My professors also makes fun of people in CVPA majors. If you can't do Engineering, go do basket weaving. My ignorance is strong. Anyway, this is not this thread's topic.

Lol....you sure do reign ignorant. And yes, your ignorance is indeed VERY strong...but hey - recognizing it is half the battle.

I can tell you WEREN'T an English major...because your definition of a "challenge" is WAY off...

by the way, if there WEREN'T english majors and liberal arts majors, not only would you not SPEAK english, but you wouldn't have had teachers to get you through high school and into your Ivy League school that you so cherish....

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

Did you just say Ignorance?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I finally understand why you're so proud of being an engineer. Every other major is based in...memorization?

Oh Consolemaster, you are such a crazy fellow.
