Our AOS was approved!!!!!!!

I just have a few questions that will hopefully help not just me, but others as well.

My wifes AOS was trasferred to California and got approved without an interview. I have read people talk about passports. Her K-1 Visa is no longer valid, so when those who have interviews, do you get a new 2 year visa inserted into your passport? If so, how do those who are not interview get the new Visa?

Also, my wife has changed her maiden name to my last name, and she has a photo ID, and her Social Security Card with her new name. Her passport has her maiden name. Do we need to get this changed and if so how?

Good Luck to you all!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance

Congrats. Your green card is your new proof of status as a permanent resident.

Not sure how to change her passport, contact her local embassy & ask. I believe you can travel with it as is, but carrying your marriage certificate.

Congrats on your approval!!

What visa are you talking about? Your wife will receive a green card by mail. It's a plastic card, not a visa sticker in the passport.

It is up to her whether she wants to change her name in her passport. It is highly recommended to do so and to have one last name on all documents. She will need to contact her country's Embassy/Consulate to find out how to change her name in the passport.

Filed AOS from F-1
Green Card approved on 01/04/07

Congratulations!!

Your wife doesn't need to get a new passport if her old one is still valid unless she wants a new one in her married name. As HappyOne posted, your wife has just to make sure that if she travels by air, her plane ticket matches the name on the passport.
