I had pretty strange experience. I had combo interview with name change request (wife’s presence was not needed) on 04/11 and was told that my I-751 is being approved. 2 weeks went past and no change in my application status. So I raised service request online and at the same time booked infopass appointment for 05/08. After one week someone was assigned on my service request and got the response via email that my case is still under review :bonk:. Anyway I still attended infopass appointment on 05/08 to see what is going on. I was told that some background checks were still pending on my both applications:ranting: (I still have a hard time to fathom that!). Guess what, on same day evening I started getting flurry of text/email I-751 notifications that my case is being transferred and new office has jurisdiction. I was really confused as to why my I-751 file is being moved out to new office from local office. But finally on Saturday I had two mails came together from USCIS (Potomac and NBC). Potomac mail (Notice date is 05/08) said that my I-751 is being moved to NBC. While NBC mail (Notice date is 05/09) said that my I-751 is approved! I checked the notice date for both mails. There was only one day difference.  So USCIS just adjudicated my application within one day of transfer notification?? Certainly not if you ask me. I believe local field office adjudicated my application but must have asked NBC to send out the decision letter. So you @Bill & Katya should get your decision soon enough too!

@Ozgirl1981  My guess is that Potomac service center already adjudicated your application and now asking NBC to issue a decision letter. Certainly it is a whole lot different game when I-751 is pending with N-400 unfortunately. Very hard to predict anything.... I hope you get your decision before N-400 interview!

@punter13 May I ask what was mentioned on the letter for the reason of transferring to NBC? I received the letter from  Potomac about the transfer to NBC 2 weeks ago but not heard back for any update yet.

Thank you

Hi Bill & Katya,

Congrats for your oath ceremony.

I have problems with my 751 interview and then they sent the case to NBC after 3 weeks. May I ask what was mentioned on your letter for the reason of transfer? Mine said "for speed up processing" I am so curious about my situation.

Thanks so much in advance.

The NOA notifying us of the I751 transfer to NBC said the same thing “To speed up processing”.  We received the approval NOA about four weeks later.

Good Luck!

Thank you. I hope we are just as fortunate as you have been! After reading the comments from everyone who is going through something similar, I feel more hopeful. It just felt very strange to have our case transferred from our local Los Angeles office to NBC... But I guess that's how things are being done right now. I wish we would have applied for my husband's N-400 at the same time like the rest of you did. The thought of going through yet another immigration process makes me feel a little sick right now after all the suffering of I-485 and I-751 - LOL!

I just wanted to tell you all that -true to what Bill & Katya said, hubby received his ROC greencard on 5/18/18 - exactly one month after our 4/18/18 interview. Hallelujah! I guess all these new bureaucratic processes are in place now, but if all things are in order, the acceptance will go through. Good luck to those who are still waiting and thank you all for your support! :)

Thank you Bill & Katya

I will wait for my update. I also asked my senator to follow up on the case. It’s wierd that they just got confirmation this evening from my local office that the case is assigned to an officer and still there and not to NBC. I’m confused with the process. Why I got the transfer letter in mail that case was transferred to NBC despite no actual transfer 😕

I think it might be their technical process when someone looks at the I 751 file after an interview. But the file is actually residing at the local office.

When I began this process (I-130) we received notice that our file was sent to NBC to speed up the process.  That was bologna!  We have serious doubts about their methods to speed up process.  Our I-130 took excessively long and had it not been for my husband persistence with booking info pass appts I am sure it would have taken twice as long. My believe is...if the file looks the slightest bit complicated, and the attending adjudicator doesn't really want to sort things out, they pass it along to NBC for them to sort things out.  In our case our file was in order, but someone somewhere, forgot to check off some boxes when looking at our file and that made our file appear 'out of order', hence it returned to NBC. My advice....stay on it, make an info pass appt to get clarity.  You might get the supervisor taking your case at your info pass appt and they can get the ball rolling.  That's what happened in our case.

My N-400 is still stuck at "interview scheduled". I also requested a name change so this is another added issue as Dallas is known for long delays when it comes to judicial oath ceremony. I will have to wait another 1-2 months I guess.

  • 2 weeks later...

I also received a letter that my case was transferred to the NBC. But in the text it said to schedule an interview.

Meanwhile it is 35 days ago and very quiet..

This transfer came after a RFE so I guess the evidence was not good enough.

Bill & Katya our experience is very similar to yours. Just had a joint I-751 and N-400 interview in Detroit and received an I-751 approval notice a few days ago. Then today we received a transfer notice for the I-751 saying that Lee's Summit, MO will make a decision on our case. N-400 case status says an oath is being scheduled. It's very unnerving to get an approval notice and then a notice of transfer. I hope that's just bureaucracy.

Hi Bill & Katya,

Did you ever have an interview for i-751? If so, was it before or after your case got transferred to NBC

Thanks!

We did have a joint interview for the I751, but we never received any notice that it was going to happen.  My wife had her N400 interview scheduled, so I went with her and the IO asked me to come back with my wife at first, we had a five minute I751 interview, then I left and my wife continued with the N400 interview.  We actually received the NBC transfer NOA about a week later.  Lately though, I have been reading a lot of stories where the IO did not ask the spouse to be there for the I751 review, so I guess it depends on the IOs.

Got you. Have you heard any cases that were approved without interviews throughout the process and was transferred to NBC for jurisdiction? I guess my question is does transferring to NBC necessarily mean an interview will happen at the local office if not before?

Thank you so much!
