Make Check Payable To...

I was trying to use my Bill Pay through my Fidelity 'Cash Management' account and it didn't have enough room to put the full "US Department of Homeland Security' on the 'Pay To'.  So I just put USDHS and my bank is sending me the check.  Is that really going to cause problems?   If so, what if I write over the check and put the full name and just have the USDHS in parenthesis and then just initial that part I edited?  Would that be good enough or just leave check the way it is and hope they still cash it?  Please HELP!!!!

I don't have any actual checks and I am not able to withdraw that large of an amount from ATM, so I figured I could just abbreviate 'US Department of Homeland Security'' but from what I've read, for some reason, they won't accept the check. :-(

Yep they won’t accept abbreviations. You can withdraw the amoun in 2 days and send it by money order. Or get a check. 

 

I wouldnt risk it.

If you send it in like that, the application will be rejected on the basis of the check not filled out correctly (even if you initial it where you made the correction).

 

Withdraw the total amount from the ATM over two transactions, and purchase a money order (filled in without the abbreviation).

Just received my NOA/receipt for my ROC!

anyway- I read somewhere, that You cannot use abbreviations- must be complete- Payable to  US Department of Homeland Security! 

 

(Oh well ( US) is abbreviated but it worked for my case!) 

 

You can order checks online- just pay extra to expedite the shipment!
